As its first venture, Kolektif will build an Agrifood Entrepreneurship Center. This center will deliver major social impact by providing farmers and entrepreneurs access to goods and services that they need to build viable livelihoods and increase their income. Roughly 90% of residents along the Arcadins Coast depend on the agricultural sector for their livelihood. Agriculture has tremendous potential in the region but the lack of access to financing and equipment; storage and processing facilities; and to larger markets constrain the ability of farmers and fishers to produce and earn adequate income. Lack of post-harvest management leads to devastating post-harvest losses, at a rate of 50% for fruits and vegetables and 33% for cereals.[1] From 2018-2021, an average of 1.1 million metric tons of cereal, fruit, and vegetables went to waste in Haiti, causing $452 million in lost income per year for smallholder farmers and exacerbating food insecurity.[2] Despite the large number of farmers, nearly 70% of Haiti’s goods are imported[3] and there has been inadequate government investment in strengthening agricultural and fishing value chains. The Agrifood Entrepreneurship Center is designed to address these challenges and enable people to realize more value from their products.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation first convened the original partner organizations of Kolektif Arcadins, as they sought solutions to the challenges and opportunities articulated by the Arcahaie community. Ever since Kolektif Arcadins’ inception, WKKF has been a champion and supporter. Today, the foundation showcases this systems-change initiative as part of its Pockets of Hope campaign, which seeks to broaden investment in locally led initiatives that are building a strong and equitable future for Haitian children, families and communities.
